AZIENDA AGRARIA BIANCHI BANDINELLI (PRODUCERS OF FINE WINES FROM TUSCANY) The Owners The Bianchi Bandinelli wine company is owned by the Boscu Bianchi Bandinelli family and Malcolm Caplan. Malcolm Caplan acquired his share in the business in 1990. The Wines The company produces a limited range of high quality Tuscan wines. Currently there are three “qualities”: - Villa di Geggiano Riserva – Chianti Classico (DOCG). Villa di Geggiano – Chianti Classico (DOCG). Bandinello – Vino Rosso di Toscana (IGT) Geggiaiolo– Vino Rosso di Toscana (IGT) -The “Villa” wines are made with 95% -97% Sangiovese grapes, the balance being Cabernet Sauvignon. - Bandinello is made with 60% Sangiovese and the balance is made up with Ciliegiolo and Syrah. -Geggiaiolo is made of Sangiovese,Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah in equal parts, matured for 24 months in french oak 225Lt barrels medium toasting. The company charges “ex-cellar” prices for the wines. The prices rise in steps of around 40% from Geggianello to the Riserva. The Boscu Bianchi Bandinelli family and their Villa The actual Villa di Geggiano has a history dating back to the 13th century. It has been owned by the Bianchi Bandinelli family since 1527. There is a richness of historic interest behind the family and the Villa. This goes back to Rolando Bandinelli who became Pope Alexander III and defeated the fearsome German Emperor, Frederick Barbarossa in 1125. More recently, and in World War II, the family was responsible for harbouring Jews and other opponents to the fascist regime. The family seems to have developed a laudable habit of getting the better of the less attractive invaders to their homeland! The Villa di Geggiano is itself of outstanding cultural and artistic interest. It is set five miles northeast of Siena in the idyllic rolling Tuscan landscape. As such it lies in the southern part of the delimited Chianti Classico region. In 1780 the interior of the Villa was restored and lavishly redecorated in order to celebrate an important family wedding. Since then, and owing to a modest decline in the family fortunes from their 18th century peak, and owing also to the absence of central heating, these internal decorations of 1780 remain unchanged and in outstanding original condition. This in itself makes the property well worth a wide detour to make a visit. The Winery The grapes are crushed and fermented in a small winery adjacent to the Villa. The wines are aged in French Allier casks in a delightful barrel vaulted “chais” (it used to be the manorial wash-house). Day-to-day Management The day-to-day business is now managed by the brothers Andrea and Alessandro Boscu Bianchi Bandinelli. It is since the brothers inherited the business that the family, and their partner Malcolm Caplan, have begun to understand the opportunity which exists for them if they can develop the full potential of these wines. Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.
