Vigneto Fracia Valtellina Superiore DOCG Nino Negri 2013

External Review by We Speak Wine:

Summary: Terroir: The Nino Negri Vigneto Fracia is produced from the estate vineyard of the same name. This 16 acre steep, terraced vineyard sits high on the south facing hillside in the commune of Chiuro within the Valgella subzone. Special clones and vinestocks have been selected and densely planted at over 12,000 plants per acre. Soils are poor consisting primarily of sand and granite gravel. Vinification: The Vigneto Fracia ripens later than the rest of the region with harvest typically conducted in mid to late October. Selection is strict in the vineyard and grapes are sorted again after arrival at the winery. The must is macerated for 8 days and then aged for 16-20 months in small French oak casks. Additional Information: Bright garnet with brick red highlights in the glass; concentrated aromas of dried flowers, violet and wild rose to the fore, spices and hints of blackberry jam. Dry, warm, full- flavored palate with an elegant finish of ripe plum and lingering bitter almond. Total Alcohol: 14.50% Total Acidity: 5.20 g/l Residual Sugar: 1.5 g/l

Nino Negri:
Our vineyards are located in a unique environment that offers much but in return demands hard work, sacrifice and passion. Here the vines grow in exceptional terrains on the mountain slopes, protected from the cold northern winds and bathed in sun from morning to night.

The spring was variable with alternating warm and cool weather. Then the heat stabilized in May and continued until mid August. After some rainfall the weather settled down and stayed fine for September and October, thereby helping the grapes to ripen. Bright garnet with brick red highlights in the glass; concentrated aromas of dried flowers, violet and wild rose to the fore, spices and hints of blackberry jam. Dry, warm, full- flavored palate with an elegant finish of ripe plum and lingering bitter almond." - Winemaker Casimiro Maule

The 2008 Valtellina Superiore Vigneto Fracia is impressive. Firm yet well-integrated tannins frame dark cherries, mountain herbs, flowers, licorice and tobacco. The aromas and flavors literally resonate off the palate in this deeply expressive wine. A backbone of lively acidity gives the wine its focus and sense of proportion. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2023. - Robert Parker 91+ Points Aromatic hints of graphite and spice accent finely meshed layers of black raspberry, black cherry, creamy red licorice and mineral, with a subtle dark chocolate note. Lightly tannic, silky in texture and well-balanced. Drink now through 2020. 75 cases imported. -AN The 2008 is bright garnet with brick red highlights in the glass; concentrated aromas of dried flowers, violet and wild rose to the fore, spices and hints of blackberry jam. Dry, warm, full flavored palate with an elegant finish of ripe plum and lingering bitter almond." -Winemaker Casimiro Maule ** SOLD OUT **
