Vigneti Villabella Amarone Classico DOC Fracastoro Delibori 2001

Winemaker's Notes:

Founded in 1971 by Walter Delibori and Giorgio Cristoforetti, the company is still owned and managed by the two families. Villabella is located in the heart of the Bardolino Classico area, in the province of Verona, where the positive influence of Lake Garda on the climate is sensible. Confirming its deep relation to the territory, Villabella is today one of the most representative producer of Bardolino, from DOCG to Classico, Chiaretto, and Novello. Grapes from this wine come from vineyards of the Cordevigo Estate, at Cavaion Veronese, on the morainic hills of the hinterland of Lake Garda, in the vicinity of the historic Villa Cordevigo (18th century). Only perfectly formed bunches with no trace of rot or mould are harvested for this wine, and this process is carried out exhaustively by hand. After this, the whole bunches are carefully placed on plastic grids, one bunch deep, and are left in crates until midwinter in drying rooms with low humidity and high levels of air circulation. The wine is deep velvet red in the glass with a garnet rim. The nose is complex with raisins, blackberries, plums, rose petals, earth and Morocco leather. In the mouth there is a hint of sweetness, with a full body, lovely layers of complexity unfolding over the tongue, and gorgeous raisiny length. It has a very full body with a hint of residual sugar, making it perfect for rich sauces with onions and carrots, rich lamb shanks, boeuf Bourgignon.
