Vignerons de Caractère Vacqueyras Vieilles Vignes 2005

External Review by Premium Wine & Spirits:

The 2005 Vacqueyras Vieilles Vignes (75% Grenache and 25% Syrah) comes from vines over 50 years of age. This wine shows more tannin and the classic 2005 style of structure density and power that will require some bottle age. Give this wine a couple of years in the bottle and drink it over the following decade.

One of my favorite regions for wines that complement a wide array of food. Medium-bodied with complex flavors of earth, spice and blackberries. Very clean red with good lift on the finish. Fruity and soft on the midpalate, but finishes like a wine that is built for aging. A nicely crafted wine that speaks of its southern Rhandocirc;ne origins.

Dark and beefy with licorice root fig sweet earth and espresso bean notes backed by a dark licorice- and loam-filled finish. Fleshy with nice buried acidity too. Drink now through 2010.

For a while the Rhône seemed to have a great vintage every year, and 2005 was no different. This blend of 75% Grenache and 25% Syrah has sweet aromas of blue raspberry and spice. On the palate, the wine is big and spicy, showing off the ripeness of the Grenache. The Syrah gives it structure and adds the blackberry flavor.
