Flavour: probably the most potent of our products, it perfectly sums up the essential characteristics of Barolo wine; great body, its excellent alcoholic concentration and tannins to guarantee very long periods of ageing. It develops slowly and reaches its maximum and genuinely important expression only after ageing for several years. Food Match: This wine is at its best when served with red meat, game, strong cheeses and rich, very tasty dishes in general. Not a wine which is easy to understand it will reward the trained and demanding palate with sensations which are simply unique. Alcohol 14.5%

Very ripe if rather classic with aromas of over ripe red fruits in alcohol, a bit of a balsamic tone, some waxy lipstick, some white soil tones as well. In the mouth this is rich, clear and fairly broad retaining great focus to the raspberry, mineral and slightly herb tinged flavors really pop on the palate. The fine grained tannins add gentle support here and while this does taper off a bit on the finish, showing a bit of heat, this remains fairly elegant in light of the vintage. 91pts
What an explosive nose filled with spices, ripe fruit, tar, a big limestone note and some nettles and just a hint of nuttiness. This is silky in the mouth with lovely acids and super fine tannins showing excellent integration and yielding a gorgeous mouthfeel. This already has lots of truffle and mineral notes forming around the youthful core dark fruit with big tannins clamping down on the chewy finish. With time that completely knit together mouthfeel while extend over the finish, and this remains very young but full of promise. 94pts
Lovely dark fruit greets the nose all minty, and fresh and focused with a nice blend of fruitiness and dried herb character. Bright and fresh and clear on the palate with fresh red fruit and that herbal, almost woodsy note from the nose. This is pretty hard and it seems a bit simple today but it is long, with firm yet integrated tannins that bode well for the future. 87pts
This offers up a full and rich nose with subtle tones of fatty mortadella and nuts over a rich, spicy core or warm cherry fruit. Nuanced menthol and a note of bandaidy camphor add complexity to the great fruit. Rich and chewy up front with sweet red fruits that turn savory on the midpalate leading to a bright pomegranite finish. This builds through the mouth with very ripe tannins and adds a layered earthy, iron note to the end of the midpalate that lingers on the finish. Real well put together with solid upside potential. 2010-2020
Gorgeous on the nose,just filed with tar, earth, animal, wild herbs, spiced cherry and plum aromas with a hint of root beer. Silky and perhap a touch faded from being opened for 24 hours and a little warm to boot, but this shows exceptional power, with cool firm fruit that is slightly more rustic than what get made today. The long finish shows mineral and superb fine grained tannins in an elegant but powerful style. This should continue to improve for quite some time, though the fruit seems to have already taken a back seat. 92pts
This was a great change of pace with a nose decidedly on the mineral, austere, and strict end of the spectrum It was spicy with oak and mineral tones, though the oak was almost all absorbed leaving just a hint of spicy cinnamon, sweet baking spice and Graham cracker that added to the bouquet. The fruit was intact, spicy and sweet with limestone and incipient notes of truffle adding depth. On the palate this was seamless with a soft and sweet entry, which builds to a sweet, black, plummy midpalate that is precisely balanced with very fine tannin and acids. The acids and mineral note draw out the finish giving this cut and fantastic definition and length as the finish segues from fruit to a sweet baking spice finale. This is very youthful but a gorgeous wine. 95pts
Classic Rionda nose of iron, seeds, dried rose petals, spice and small red fruits shows lovely freshness and detail. This is another silky wine though it’s a bit tired and lacks some focus on the palate, again from having been opened the day earlier, though it is chewy and powerfully with late arriving acidity and truffle notes layered over faded rose petals and spicy red fruit with lots of mineral notes and still with tons of fine grained tannins, While not fruity this remains powerful and young with a long limestone finale, 94pts

The nose was restrained, yet found its center with time in the glass, showing a bouquet of bright spiced cherry, tobacco, sandy soil and saline minerals. On the palate, it was lean in body, showing notes of dried cherry, earth and mushroom with teaming acidity and a broad structure that took control and lasted throughout the finish.

After four hours in decanter the 1998 Massolino Vigna Rionda showed a gorgeous floral character with wild berries, rose petal, menthol and a bit of damp forest floor that really kept it interesting. Velvety on the palate with Raspberry and Cherry fruit, tobacco and cedar box. A nice finish of cranberry and savory herds. Moderate tannins that should keep this bottle aging well into the next decade.

Nice but still young, classic showing of anise, florist shop, tar and cranberry on the nose. The palate is still restrained but showing dark cherry and herbs with a firm tannic finish. A great wine that still needs time and will likely evolve into something very special.
