Fruity on the nose with a nice underlay of toasty oak spice and vanilla and top notes of braised herbs, licorice and violets. This is smooth and supple in the mouth with an initial rush of smoky, toasty and scorched earth inner-mouth perfumes. Perhaps a bit on the tight side, this shows a fairly heavy if balanced load of load tannins in the mouth along with dark pencil lead and toast flavors over some grape, with red currants and fresh purple and blue fruits. The finish is cut short by the tannins. This has some of the hardness and underlying unyielding nature of old school winemaking. I bet this gets better with 2-5 years in the cellar. Needs an aggressive steak for dinner tonight. 90pts

Perfumed on the nose with a strong pine resin note over rich, ripe blueberry fruit. In the mouth this is soft and dry with black cherry fruit that’s wrapped in a clumsy, chunky mouthfeel. The fruit turns a bit muddied and indistinct on the finish. 84pts

45% syrah, 40% carignan, 15% grenache. The nose starts with a strong hit of dirt then manure, but with juicy blackberries underneath. The flavor doesn't have the fruit, but is an interesting combination of olive and fennel seeds. Next to no finish.

Artisan juni proeverij - De smaak is opvallend zacht en soepel. De hinten van sappige bessen en de zachte zuren geven de wijn zijn elegante karakter. Lichte tonen van vanille in de afdronk

BBQ potentie. Licht geur, prettige schoenenzweet. Drinkbaar, sappig, voor niet roodwijn liefhebbers prima. Paul van Kats wijn

A fresh, crisp grape typical wine with notes of apple and minerals.

The 2008 Barolo Vigneto La Villa emerges from the glass with generous dark red fruit, flowers, menthol, pine and licorice, all supported by firm, massive tannins. French oak gives the wine volume and textural depth, but without being intrusive. A plush, authoritative finish rounds out this stylish, totally fabulous Barolo. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2028. ** Only 1 in Stock **

Trockener, aromatischer Weisswein mit intensiven Aromen nach frischen Haselnüssen und Butter. Im Gaumen weist er eine angenehme Säure auf, ist rassig und gut strukturiert. Ein reicher und komplexer Wein.

The 2008 Ossian Blanco (a partnership between Javier Zaccagnini and Ismael Gonzalo) may represent the ultimate expression of the Verdejo grape. Sourced from a 180-year-old pre-phylloxera vineyard located in the village of Nieva outside of the Rueda DO, this 100% Verdejo spent 10 months in a combination of 300 and 500-liter barrels and foudre. Light gold colored, it offers up a toasty, leesy, mineral, baking spice, apricot and tropical-scented perfume. Super spicy on the palate with a creamy texture, superb concentration, and richness, this lengthy effort is a Verdejo like no other. Drink it over the next 3andndash;4 years.

Bright gold. An exotically scented bouquet features dried pear, mango and apricot, made more complex by notes of botanical herbs, honey and minerals. A wild and singular wine, it offers pliant pit and tropical fruit flavors along with notes of bay, sage and mint. The honeyed quality comes back strong on the broad, spicy, very long finish. According to the importer, these vines were planted on sandy soils that phylloxera never reached and are more than 180 years old.

Winemaker's Notes:

92 points Wine Spectator: Still tight, with the core of cherry and red currant fruit held in check by a mix of lightly firm sandalwood, spice, licorice root and warm stone flavors. Mulled fig and cocoa notes check in on the grippy finish. A rare backward style 2008 that will need some cellaring to round into form. Best from 2013 through 2020. (2/28/11)
