Vietti Nebbiolo Barolo Brunate 2004
95 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): An enveloping, seamless wine, it perfectly captures the sepia-toned nuances of the Brunate vineyard. Smoke, tar, licorice, plums, prunes and chocolate emerge from this powerful, weighty Barolo. Balsamic overtones develop in the glass, adding further complexity and elegance as this sweet, perfumed wine continues to open. It is another gorgeous offering from Vietti. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2024. (Dec 2007)
Editorial Reviews for Vietti Nebbiolo Barolo Brunate
Big fruit greets the nose, dark fruit, cocoa tinged and spicy topped with dark macerated floral notes. While large scaled in the mouth, this is seamless with tons of strawberry seed, plum skin and spicy berry fruit on the palate. The fine grained tannins lend this a gorgeous texture, long, fine and tight, with a finish that is focused and pure. A bit tight today and not showing tremendous complexity, this has all the raw materials it needs to blossom beautifully. 93pts
Balsamic on the nose with a bit of new wood showing over sadny soil tones and dusty, perfumed rose and strawberry aromas. Soft on entry with a chewy, fruit driven feel that features small red fruits with a slight jammy edge and a pop of strawberry on the backend. While this seems plush at first it’s actually packed with with plenty of angular tannins that cut the finish short, though the hints of lingonberry and very aromatic rose petals and balsamic aromas on the finish are promising. 90pts
Deep fruit, touch of mineral, licorice, anise seed, intense liquory wild raspberry fruit, touch of graham cracker, a touch lean on entry, clear and cool, nice taut texture, dark fruit, touch of bitter seeds, a bit simple bit with good power on the back end, packed with tannin on the finish which shows some mint and cherry skin
A bit sweet and meaty on the nose with plenty of nutty, espresso toned oak but this is also rather large scaled and complex with dark cherry fruit, menthol and floral accents. Smooth and chewy in the mouth this is big and deep with lots of earthy black cherry fruit that shows a lovely brightness and tension in the mouth with a long earthy finish that does show just a hint of bitterness. This should just get better. 92pts
piercing soil tones, a bit of animal fur, tobacco, macerated flowers, amarena cherry, great balance, a bit more roundness than the lazzarito but showing less complete integration, needs time to knit together, juicy with really nice fruit and again excellent precision
What a nose, intense with limestone, copper, earthy and starchy notes that were just a touch burnt. This was just smoking, or so it seemed with huge notes of pipe tobacco and hot asphalt rising from the glass and yielding to light notes of astringent red fruit and a lovely dried thyme tone. This has really sweet fruit on entry with polished tannins and airy red fruits. At first this had a sexily supple mouthfeel with rich red fruit and great length but it lacks a bit of precision and gets a little muddy across the back end before leading to the finish which is just a touch coarse. There are masses of fruit here but this does trade some precision for that richness. Still excellent 2009-2017 92pts.

A 2010 Barolo with beautiful balance and complexity with rose plum and hints of sandalwood. Full body with integrated tannins and along and seamless finish. Best Brunate of the vintage. Better in 2018. James Suckling.
Dark red fruit iron new leather and smoke all jump from the 2010 Barolo Brunate. A huge dense powerful Barolo the 2010 Brunate boasts stunning depth and sheer richness. At the same time though it is incredibly polished for such a big wine. The Brunate brings together the power of the Lazzarito but with a greater sense of textural polish and finesse that is typical of the Rocche. In 2010 the Brunate is all about balance and harmony. Antonio Galloni.
Good bright red. Closed nose offers ineffable soil tones to complement raspberry and menthol. Tight juicy and imploded but already shows outstanding precision to its primary flavors of crushed berries minerals and brown spices. Wonderful energy and restrained sweetness here not to mention huge material to support its serious tannic spine. Finishes with outstanding mineral persistence. 94+ Stephen Tanzers IWC.
The 2008 Barolo Brunate flows onto the palate with layers of dark fruit, spices, menthol and licorice. It is an unusually plush, generous wine for the year, endowed with tons of grace and sheer depth. This is a fabulous, layered Brunate that should drink well with a few more years in the bottle. Layers of sweet, perfumed fruit, rose petals and spices build effortlessly to the gracious, elegant finish. The Brunate is brooding and tannic, but the wine softens a bit with air. Anticipated maturity: 2018–2028.
Good full medium red. Reticent nose hints at musky currant and mint. Broad, dry and painfully closed, with toothdusting tannins currently cutting off the wine's finish. This is very hard to taste today. With their strong acidity, these 2008 Barolos may surprise with their longevity, but does this uncompromising wine have enough stuffing? (Incidentally, the Barbaresco Masseria was affected by hail in 2008, so this juice was declassified into the Perbacco bottling.)
Sweet vanilla and spice notes greet the nose as black cherry and tobacco flavors permeate the palate. Firm and linear, with a long, sweet aftertaste of fruit and mineral. In the modern camp, but finished more like a traditional Barolo. Best from 2017 through 2035.
