Vietti Nebbiolo Barolo Brunate 2001

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

piercing soil tones, a bit of animal fur, tobacco, macerated flowers, amarena cherry, great balance, a bit more roundness than the lazzarito but showing less complete integration, needs time to knit together, juicy with really nice fruit and again excellent precision

Since the presentation of the 1982 Barolo Villero in 1988, the artist’s labels have been dedicated exclusively to the wines grown on this great vineyard. Read less

Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.

A bit sweet and meaty on the nose with plenty of nutty, espresso toned oak but this is also rather large scaled and complex with dark cherry fruit, menthol and floral accents. Smooth and chewy in the mouth this is big and deep with lots of earthy black cherry fruit that shows a lovely brightness and tension in the mouth with a long earthy finish that does show just a hint of bitterness. This should just get better. 92pts

The Brunate bottling is always Vietti's most accessible, typically showing earthy fruit supported by rose petal aromatics and rich, slightly roasted berry fruits. This one is no exception, and 2001 just happened to be a phenomenal vintage in Barolo. While this is very enjoyable today, it has the concentration and balance to evolve for decades.
