Vietti Barolo Villero Riserva 2010

Winemaker's Notes:

"The 2010 Barolo Castiglione is absolutely lovely upon first impact. It starts off dense, with notes of tar, dried cherry, and plum then adds layers of bright florals and spicy notes. Mineral shadings and smoked meat also appear as distant highlights. The 2010 vintage in particular coats the palate with a firm but subtle grip. The wine already shows great complexity...94" WA 07/14 "The 2010 Barolo Castiglione is beautiful in the way it brings together the vibrancy of the year with a soft, inviting textural presence. Freshly cut flowers, mint, sweet spices, anise and red berries are all woven together nicely in the glass. With time in the glass, the wine blossoms with exquisite finesse, floral aromatics and exquisite overall balance. Ripe, silky tannins support the exquisite finish. An insanely beautiful wine, the 2010 will give readers a good idea of just how great the 2010 vintage is at Vietti. The Barolo Castiglione is made from a large number of parcels across the Barolo zone, many of which are of a high enough level of quality that they could be bottled separately. This is first-class juice...94" AG 01/14

Vegetal and very floral on the super high toned that’s a little candied but filled with fine raspberry and dark strawberry fruit that shows just a hint of oak. Big fruit greets the palate showing nice cut and the great tension of Rocche tannins. The midpalate turns a little creamy before the acids kick in showing tremendous brightness to the fruit With excellent drive and energy on the palate and decent length this does show a touch of hollowness on the midpalate today before powering through on the finish with terrific acid cut and perfumes of licorice, rose petals and strawberry seeds. A bit unformed today, this should prove to be particularly long lived and will most likely be the benchmark for Vietti’s Rocche for decades. 95pts

Compact and savory on the nose with waxy, spicy fruit that is ripe and very floral, minty and bright. Full on entry, and very round with supple tannins and bright acids in the mouth, this displays lovely astringent lingonberry fruit with sweeter cherry skin notes on the backend and through the long, bright and slightly chewy finish. The tannins really build on the palate and while fine grained, become quite assertive if fully ripe and quite suave. A lovely base barolo 90pts

Deep fresh red. Knockout primary nose offers strawberry raspberry smoke menthol tobacco and rose petal. Like liquid silk in the mouth conveying incredible thickness to its youthful fruit flavors. Powerful salty minerality gives this utterly seamless wine uncanny urgency. Finishes with big dusty fine-grained tannins and great length. Currado noted that this wine was racked only three times following the malolactic fermentation. A Barolo classic in the making. 96+ Stephen Tanzers I

Luca Currado blends this wine from his family’s vineyards in Castiglione Falletto, Monforte, Barolo and Novello, the vines seven to 35 years old. It’s a wine for the cellar, the tannins constricting around a generous, floral, ripe cherry core of fruit. It feels like it’s about to blossom with air, but only shows the clarity of its fruit more openly, still bound up in the structure. It’s a pure and healthy wine that will bloom with age.

Graphite and mineral aromas signal this round, supple red, exhibiting cherry, strawberry, floral and white pepper flavors. Harmonious, with fine length and detail. Best from 2017 through 2029.

A wine of exquisite beauty the 2010 Barolo Rocche is pure silk on the palate. The 2010 is incredibly dense dark and powerful for a young Rocche. With time in the glass the Rocche opens up nicely showing the full breadth of its potential and pedigree. Stunning in the glass and impeccable throughout the 2010 Rocche is firing on all cylinders. Sweet rose petals mint spices and licorice are woven into the breathtaking perfumed finish. Antonio Galloni.

Captivating nose combines raspberry, truffle, earth, coffee, tobacco and a positive herbaceous note. Dense and rich but youthfully imploded, with bright acidity energizing the flavors of minerals, mocha and humus. The long, echoing finish features building ripe tannins and considerable incipient complexity.

The 2010 Barolo Castiglione is absolutely lovely upon first impact. It starts off dense, with notes of tar, dried cherry, and plum then adds layers of bright florals and spicy notes. Mineral shadings and smoked meat also appear as distant highlights. The 2010 vintage in particular coats the palate with a firm but subtle grip. The wine already shows great complexity. Drink: 2016–2026.
