Nutty, cocoa, and sweet toasted spice oak on the nose tops the core of nice dark spiced cherries with a dusty, spicy character. High toned and bright on entry, unusually structured, lots of weight low on the palate with prominent acidity, fine grained but abundant tannins, and a little peppery spice on the backend. The finish is all structure, tannins, acids, the fruit is elusive here, and the wine just seems to lack complexity and oomph at this point but this does shows nice tannins with some sweet, darker cherry fruit popping on the finish. 89pts

Appealing aromas of flowers, cherry and raspberry take on tobacco and leather flavors as this crosses the palate. Rich and round, with a supple texture, this is firmly structured, offering a fine aftertaste of fruit and mineral. Needs time to unwind. Best from 2017 through 2035.
Bright red with a palish rim. Noble Rocche aromas and flavors of strawberry, dried rose, brown spices, mocha and menthol. Delicate and refined but a bit lean, with strong acidity giving the mid-palate terrific cut and juiciness. Finishes long and scented, with big, dusty, slightly drying tannins. Forget this wine for at least six or seven years.
Reifruchtiges, rotbeeriges Bouquet, leichte Pfeffer- und Ledernoten, sehr intensiv und komplex. Weicher Auftakt, kräftige Struktur, sehr aromatisch mit präsenten, kräftigen Tanninen im Abgang.
The 2008 Barolo Castiglione is striking. Sweet red berries, freshly cut flowers, spices and mint are some of the many nuances that flow from this impeccable, mid-weight Barolo. The 2008 Castiglione impresses for its exceptional balance, polished finish and sheer beauty. This is a feminine Castiglione graced with exquisite class. With time in the glass, the wine fleshes out beautifully. Once again, the Castiglione delivers incredible value. In 2008 Vietti did not make their Villero Riserva, instead that juice went into the Castiglione. Anticipated maturity: 2016–2028.
Medium red with an amber rim. Musky plum, redcurrant, game and flowers on the nose. Tighter and more serious than the Perbacco, with its density leavened by strong acidity. In a distinctly sappy, dry style, showing less fruit today and finishing with oak-influenced tannins.
