Vietti Barolo Ravera 2014

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Intensely aromatic with a touch of nuttiness on the nose along with minty, polleny floral notes, nettles, a powerful herbal extract note, scents of men’s cologne and small berry fruit on the nose. There is nice power up front then this turns a little drying on the midpalate with good cut on the long finish. The tannins are also a little dry on the finish which shows lots of licorice and red fruit character. Those tannin clip the finish, which then shows a touch of heat. The aromatics are very attractive hee but the tannins are a bit worrisome. 92pts

Since 1974 certain Vietti wines have been dressed with specially-designed original works (lithographs, xylographies, etchings, silkscreens, linocuts) inspired by the wine of that particular vintage. Since the presentation of the 1982 Barolo Villero in 1988, the artist’s labels have been dedicated exclusively to the wines grown on this great vineyard. Read less

Again after 4 hours this offers a wonderful contrast to the warmer years with it's spicy, musky tones of wild orchard fruits, crisp mint and pine tones and subtle, nuanced notes of wood spice and toast. Fresh and crisp in the mouth with black cherry fruit that has great verve and minerality. Has a deceptive gentleness that makes it deceptively easy to drink but this should develop splendidly.

The "Rocche" vineyard is renown for its ability to age marvelously. In it's youth, you'll enjoy the structure and the underlying chalk minerals from limestone soils. This is a full-bodied red wine made from the famed Nebbiolo grape. Full of violets, mixed dark berries and a touch of espresso foam. The Vietti winery makes a style that's accessible in its youth but can withstand the test of time in the cellar.
