Vietti Barolo Castiglione DOCG Italy 2011

Winemaker's Notes:

Wine Advocate Review
Rated 92
The 2011 Barolo Castiglione is Vietti's proverbial bread-and-butter wine. It is made in larger volumes (the 2011 vintage saw 56,000 bottles produced) and it shows consistent quality that consumers have come to count on. Fruit is sourced from the greater Castiglione area. The nose is compact and impeccable with dark cherry and plum, backed by spice, licorice and anise seed. There's even a playful touch of bitter chocolate on the close.

James Suckling Review
Rated 92
Bright and beautiful with dried berry, hazelnut and citrus character. Full body, firm tannins and a fresh finish. All the Vietti pedigree here with a more reasonable price. Better in 2018.

VinoUS Media Review
Rated 90-92
The 2011 Barolo Castiglione is a drop-dead gorgeous beauty. Sweet red berries, freshly cut flowers, spices and mint are some of the many notes that grace the palate in a young Barolo with extraordinary finesse. Although just bottled, the 2011 shows very, very well today. (Antonio Galloni)

Wine Spectator Review
Rated 91
Cherry, leather and iron aromas add eucalyptus and tobacco flavors as this polished red unfolds on the palate. Stays balanced and should be approachable soon. Sweet berry, tobacco and mineral details grace the finish. Best from 2018 through 2028.

Wine Tasting Notes
Pale ruby color with garnet hues and powerful aromas of rich, ripe cherries with intricate complexities of spice, tea leaves and rose petals. With strong, rich tannins, crisp acidity and masculine structure, this age worthy Barolo shows incredible finesse with excellent balance, integration and a long, lingering finish.

Since the presentation of the 1982 Barolo Villero in 1988, the artist’s labels have been dedicated exclusively to the wines grown on this great vineyard. Read less
