Editorial Reviews for Vietti Barbera Barbera d'Alba Scarrone
Quite perfumed on the nose with a touch of sourness accenting the sweetly floral, slightly gamy top note that accents the core of sour black fruit and sweet oak. A bit low key in the mouth but showing admirable richness. There's plenty of acidity here but the tannins seem to have drained some of the fruit from the mid-palate. The tannins turn a bit splintery on the back end while the fruit does begin to reassert itself, showing off fresh plum skin, raspberry and creamy strawberry notes. The finish is short and tight with a flash of black coffee followed by acidity and wood spice. Should improve with age. 87pts
User Reviews for Vietti Barbera Barbera d'Alba Scarrone
Add your reviewWinemaker's Notes:
Ruby purple color with intense aromas of concentrated ripe red and black cherries with vanilla and hints of brown spice. With refreshing acidity, rich tannins, and on the fuller-bodied side for Barbera, the single vineyard La Scaronne has finesse, excellent balance, great complexity, integration and a long lingering finish. Food Pairings: Hearty stews, seasoned pasta and poultry with rich sauces, game, roasted red meats and sharp cheeses.
