Vidal-Fleury Cotes du Rhone 2009

External Review by WineExpress.com:

Vidal-Fleury has a long history daing back to the 1700's. It was one of the wineries visited by Thomas Jefferson on his trip to France in 1787. Today they are considered one of the most consistent producers in the Rhone Valley. The Guigal family took over several years ago and have completely modernized the operation while still following traditional methods. A slow maceration is done for the the grapes in this Cotes du Rhone Rhine red. The blend is 65% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre and 5% Carignan all fermented separately with indigenous yeasts. Aging in tank and in large oak foudres is followed by a light filtration before bottling unfined. 2009 was a stand year in the Rhone and the wine shows bold fruit flavors dusted with dried herb and spice notes. A big, juicy Cotes du Rhone at a great price.

Very fresh and pure, with honeysuckle, white peach and green fig notes that stay bright and bouncy through the finish. Drink now. 1,150 cases imported.
