Viader Red Bordeaux Blend Napa Valley Proprietary Red 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

Our philosophy is to allow the grapes and terroir (all factors that influence the character of grapes grown in a specific microclimate) to express naturally in every glass of VIADER. VIADER captures an ideal balance between Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Cabernet Sauvignon adds complexity and character as well as the backbone structure for long aging potential while Cabernet Franc contributes to the early approachability, elegant structure and violet-like aromatics.

VIADER's vineyards and winery are located on the steep rocky slopes of Howell Mountain in the Napa Valley. While raising four children on her own, Argentine-born Delia Viader forged the vision and design for her unique estate vineyard property, wine blend and brand. Because of her dedication, persistence and insight, VIADER was recognized early on as a first growth property and the wines have been highly coveted since inception. She has earned the reputation as a pioneer for planting the vines running directly down the mountain, in a style normally found in Europe. After some initial criticism, the planting technique with its vertical trellises is now regarded as an ideal model for growing super-premium quality grapes. The original focus on Cabernet Franc as the main blending component was a natural homage to Delia's European roots and her love of Cheval Blanc. In the last few years, Delia's children have joined the business, making this a true family operation. Read less

Very good wine. Interesting blend with so much Petite Verdot. Lots of spice and ceder box aroma. Chocolate and plum in the taste. I would love to taste a vertical of this.

The nose is not over powering. Picked up hints of blackberry. On the palate a very different story. Loaded with dark ripe plums and some other fruits in the background. hints of vanilla, some tartness and really nice tannins. Nice structure and full body. The best part is the super finish that goes on and on and picking up hints of dark chocolate.

...Licorice, smoky oak and a hint of surmaturite on the nose. Round, sweet and approachable, with plum and licorice flavors. Finishes with dusty, broad tannins and good freshness and grip... Tasting Notes:

Our 2005 VIADER reaches a more sophisticated, almost "aristocratic" elegance, showing initial notes of mocha and tobacco leaf supporting the ripe black fruit. Enticingly sweet brown sugar notes on the nose complement currant and mineral undertones typical of wines coming from Howell Mountain's volcanic soil. On the palate, this wine shows refined, supple tannins with a "persistent cashmere finish"

Our philosophy is to allow the grapes and terroir (all factors that influence the character of grapes grown in a specific microclimate) to express naturally in every glass of VIADER. VIADER captures an ideal balance between Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.
