What to Expect

Cabernet Franc, along with Sauvignon Blanc, is a parent of the more famous Cabernet Sauvignon. Quite similar in many ways to Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc tends to have higher acid and lighter tannins than its offspring, with fruit in the redder end of the spectrum and a distinctive, aggressive herbal note that can dominate the wine's aromas.

Winemakers Notes

2005 Viader Dare Cab Franc The DARE Cabernet Franc comes from their hillside estate vineyards blended with fruit sourced from Jan Krupps Stagecoach Vineyards in Oakville As they intend this wine to drink earlier than the VIADER, the wine is aged on primary lees for 6 months before being racked and blended to impart mid-palate weight and texture. The lifted aromatics exhibit red plums, raspberry and bing cherry supported by secondary notes of east Indian spice and cardamom. The wine shows a plush entry that leads to a well-defined mid-palate and a long, silky finish. Reviews

The nose hints at spices, smoke and pepper. This wine takes a while to open up, but then exhibits the flavor of ripe cherries supported by soft tannins, and a long finish with a hint of tobacco and vanilla.

One of my favs - Love Viader in general but their 2004 and 2005 cab francs were true to their winery. Light fruity yet more complex than other cab francs - lots of plums and black cherry - love hints of spice - try this!

This is one of the best, smoothest and, flavorful wines available in the United States. I would recommend this wine and think it could be best in show amongst all Cabs.
