After a mild, damp winter, the budburst came almost a month early. The vines were thus in danger from the Spring frosts which came in two waves, on 15 and 19 April, hitting nearly 12,000 hectares. Freshly baked bread and vanilla nose. Rich fruit on the palate, with balance.

The 1996 is impressive but currently 1990 excels. Heavenly. All pervasive, nutty, heady bouquet. Great rounded full-fruit taste. White peaches finish. The perfect intermingling of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. A chef d'oeuvre of Clicquot's oenologist Jacques Peters, who celebrated his 25 years at the winemaking helm of Clicquot in 2004.

Lightly-packed with notes of citrus oil, orange rind, white peach, honeysuckle, and brioche, the medium to full-bodied 1996 La Grande Dame Brut should age well for 15-20 years. Crisp, fresh, and backward, it is another brilliant example from the exquisite 1990 vintage.(Wine Advocate)

Brilliant golden color with hints of green and a fine and delicate mousse. Fresh bouquet of great finesse, dominated by white flowers, citrus and white fruit, closing with slightly toasty notes of roasted hazelnuts and almonds. Rich and round on the palate, revealing flavors both creamy and fleshy (white peaches). Perfectly balanced with subtle freshness and a long noble finish worthy of this truly exceptional vintage.
