Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin Champagne Brut Rosé Vintage Reserve NV

Winemaker's Notes:

90 points Wine Spectator: A smoky version, exhibiting light berry and watermelon notes. Quite firm, as much from the chalky sensation as from the lively acidity. Despite its lightness, this shows intensity and length. Drink now through 2011. (11/30/09)

Founded in 1772, Veuve Clicquot is among the most prestigious Champagne Houses. Its extensive holdings, many originally purchased by Madame Clicquot, stretch throughout the top-rated areas of the Champagne region and are exceptional in size and quality. As in madame Clicquot's day, bottles age in the House's vast, vaulted cellars in Reims, portions of which were constructed some 2,000 years ago by the Romans. The remarkable Madame Clicquot (1777-1866) is considered one of the first business-women of the modern era. Widowed in 1805 at the age of 27, Madame Veuve Clicquot (born Ponsardin) defied every convention of the day to take the helm of her late husband's small Champagne House. She personally supervised cellar activities and introduced innovative production techniques still used today. Champagne Veuve Clicquot is known internationally for its classically styled and full-bodied Champagne. Read less

Really smooth, plenty of small bubbles and a very nice sweet taste which goes down so easily.

Very mellow and palatable, with a nice tart/fruity finish, but the "middle" was simply...missing, for lack of a better term. Bubbles did not seem particularly long-lasting or effervescent.

Fine mousse of bubbles and a delicate nose of cherries. This rose is soft and smooth and goes down very easily. There is a slight yeast flavor, but its faint. Very nice.

Bold, vivacious and forward, this appealing wine is true to the house style, with plenty of sweet, pretty fruit. There are unchallenging but undeniably enjoyable flavors of ripe stone fruits, hints of grapefruit and citrus zest, and a smack of wet stone in the back of the throat. Young and fresh, without the toasty finesse of the vintage rosés.

A lusciously fruity rosandeacute;, this tastes of pure pinot noir, airy and bright, like a fragrant wisp of a Chorey-landegrave;s-Beaune. The soft, honeyed fruit leaves a pleasurable, lasting impression, easy to drink on its own or with thinly sliced beef.

A beautiful pinot noir, simple and lovely in its quiet strawberry fruit. This rosé has the same mouthfilling presence as the Yellow Label Brut, sweet in the middle, brisk and clean in the end.

The color of ballet shoes, this offers a floral nose partnered with a rich palate of flavor, subtly woven with brioche, toasted nut, black raspberry, apricot and graphite notes. This vibrant wine maintains a sense of elegance throughout. Drink now through 2018. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.

The NV Brut Rosandeacute; is a straightforward, accessible wine to enjoy over the next year or two. With a little additional refinement in the tannins, this bottling might merit a slightly higher score. This is Lot 14009917, disgorged between December, 2006 and January, 2007. Anticipated maturity: 2008andndash;2010.
