What to Expect

Champagne is specifically a sparkling wine made in the Champagne region of France; every other sparkling is simply that, sparkling wine. Made to be aged for a few to many years, in many languages "Champagne" is synonymous with "party". When young, Champagne exhibits the fresh fruit tones of its "cepage", or blend. Usually based on a blend the features either Chardonnay or Pinot Noir as its main ingredient, Champagne's fruit can range from citrusy to orchard fruits and even red berries. The wine gains distinct yeasty notes from its secondary fermentation, the one that adds the fizz, which is typically described as recalling brioche or bread. As it ages Champagne tends to lose its obvious fruit, which is replaced by subtle nutty tones and subdued elements of dried fruits.

Winemakers Notes

Tasting Notes: In the mouth, the wine displays both roundness and mellowness, combined with a delightful freshness due to its gentle acidity. The distinct fruit aromas come from higher levels of Pinot Meunier. Chardonnay completes the blend, contributing to its freshness and delicacy.

Composition: No fewer than 50 individual wines make up this cuvée.

40 – 45% Pinot Noir
30 – 35% Pinot Meunier
20 – 25% Chardonnay

The inclusion of 20 to 30 percent of reserve wines ensures consistency of the Veuve Clicquot style. These wines are kept apart, read more...

Creamy, with a touch of sweetness. Veuve Clicquot's Demi-Sec (the classic accompaniment to dessert) is equally pleasing as an apTritif. This stylish blend is evocative of the wine Madame Clicquot herself produced in the early 19th century.

Demi-Sec is blended largely from Pinot Noir with Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier as well as reserve wines. The liqueur d'expdition (carefully prepared and dosed with 45 g per litre by our oenologists) gives it a sweeter yet still very fresh harmony. Demi-Sec is at its best when served with desserts. You could even serve it in a carafe not to decant it but to admire the colour and the delicate bubbles of this elegant wine.
