Founded in 1772, Veuve Clicquot is among the most prestigious Champagne Houses. Its extensive holdings, many originally purchased by Madame Clicquot, stretch throughout the top-rated areas of the Champagne region and are exceptional in size and quality. As in madame Clicquot's day, bottles age in the House's vast, vaulted cellars in Reims, portions of which were constructed some 2,000 years ago by the Romans. The remarkable Madame Clicquot (1777-1866) is considered one of the first business-women of the modern era. Widowed in 1805 at the age of 27, Madame Veuve Clicquot (born Ponsardin) defied every convention of the day to take the helm of her late husband's small Champagne House. She personally supervised cellar activities and introduced innovative production techniques still used today. Champagne Veuve Clicquot is known internationally for its classically styled and full-bodied Champagne. Read less

Champagne, FranceVeuve Clicquot Champagne La Grande Dame is the tete de cuve of Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin, named in honor of its matriarch, Madame Clicquot. It is a supremely elegant vintage Champagne produced in extremely limited quantities from the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vineyards Madame Clicquot purchased in the early 1800s. This is the perfect gift to express the ultimate in luxury and elegance. The new 1998 vintage received a rating of 92 points from Steve Tanzer. We just call it a wine gem!Veuve Clicquot Champagne La Grande Dame is a deep yellow-gold in color with fine, persistent bubbles. On the nose, apples and citrus mingle with notes of baked bread, pralines, clove and nutmeg. The full palate is silky and rich, with notes of apples, nuts, honey, spice and vanilla custard. The finish is long and engaging.Enjoy Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin Champagne La Grande Dame to toast a very special moment, or to accompany a wonderful dinner!

There's plenty of finesse in this sleek Champagne, along with an airy texture and loads of grip. Graphite, lemon, toast and mineral aromas and flavors prevail, and this takes on a chalky edge on the lingering aftertaste. Best from 2010 through 2028. ... Wine Spectator.
