Veuve Clicquot Gold Label Brut 2004

Winemaker's Notes:

"Fresh, with a lively bead and a smoky, mineral-tinged base note. Flavors of poached apple and pear, dried cherry, bread dough and lemon zest lead to a finish of good intensity and length. Very zesty...92" WS 12/12 "One of the best vintages since the great 2002, this is a sophisticated, fruit- and yeast-driven wine. It has a delicate touch, with its white fruit flavors well integrated into the toasty and tangy texture. It will age for many more years...94" WE 12/12

Founded in 1772, Veuve Clicquot is among the most prestigious Champagne Houses. Its extensive holdings, many originally purchased by Madame Clicquot, stretch throughout the top-rated areas of the Champagne region and are exceptional in size and quality. As in madame Clicquot's day, bottles age in the House's vast, vaulted cellars in Reims, portions of which were constructed some 2,000 years ago by the Romans. The remarkable Madame Clicquot (1777-1866) is considered one of the first business-women of the modern era. Widowed in 1805 at the age of 27, Madame Veuve Clicquot (born Ponsardin) defied every convention of the day to take the helm of her late husband's small Champagne House. She personally supervised cellar activities and introduced innovative production techniques still used today. Champagne Veuve Clicquot is known internationally for its classically styled and full-bodied Champagne. Read less

a dry, crisp and full of flavors classic champagne. the yellow label looks like gold in a fine glass. some baked apple & brioche on the nose. with a hint of toast and nuts although a bit harsh initially, with aeration became smoother.

Tart and dry, but not a bad Champagne if you're feeling like going authentic.

This is a rich and creamy Champagne with a lively mousse, giving it a forward fruit character. Slowly the depth and concentration of the wine come through, with a white fruit flavor and hints of grapefruit and toasty yeast, which all promising good aging.

This shows grace of form with its refined texture and subtle array of flavors-date, roast apple, black raspberry, bread dough, mineral and spice-yet theres power here in the racy acidity, underlying structure and mineral-tinged finish. Very elegant, this is all in the details, offering precise and silky texture, mouthwatering acidity and a smoky, mineral undertow that enriches flavors of patisserie pear, crystallized honey, kumquat and toasted almond. Offers a clean, citrus-tinged finish. Drink now through 2027.

According to Wine Spectator - Refined and creamy in texture, this offers a rich, smoky base note to flavors of macerated cherry, toasted brioche, candied orange peel and strawberry preserves.

Tasting Notes:

The first nose reveals a solid mineral sreucture, noble fruit (white peach, red currant, raspberry, blueberry) and remarkable intensity. The finish is fresh and generous giving a glimpse of the discreet liquering which does not upset the wines natural balance.
