External Reviews for Veuve Clicquot Champagne "Demi Sec"
Veuve Clicquot consistently produces one of the best dessert Champagnes, soft and clean rather than directly sweet. This has the toasty scent of roasted coffee beans, of pignoli nuts and toasted almonds. Those balance a floral element, bringing dried roses and lemon verbena to mind. Serve this with a pignoli or marzipan tart.
Like a sweeter version of a good blanc de blancs, with graphite, honey and lemon notes that mix with the richness and lively acidity. Moderate length. Drink now. -BS

Firm, with a fine mousse, this shows bright apple, lemon and floral flavors. Graceful, ending with a chalky sensation around the gums. Good length. Drink now through 2008.
There's more of a bread dough note in this demi-sec than most, along with honey and a firm, citrusy acidity. Though less opulent, it's balanced, lingering nicely on the palate. Drink now.
The dosage level is 45g/l, which makes this wine a bit sweet, but not cloying. Toast and candied citron aromas and some honeyed apple and lemon flavors. Decanting reduces the apparent acidity, thereby raising the perception of sweetness.
Demi-Sec is blended largely from Pinot Noir with Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier as well as reserve wines. The liqueur d'expdition (carefully prepared and dosed with 45 g per litre by our oenologists) gives it a sweeter yet still very fresh harmony. Demi-Sec is at its best when served with desserts. You could even serve it in a carafe not to decant it but to admire the colour and the delicate bubbles of this elegant wine.
