Founded in 1772, Veuve Clicquot is among the most prestigious Champagne Houses. Its extensive holdings, many originally purchased by Madame Clicquot, stretch throughout the top-rated areas of the Champagne region and are exceptional in size and quality. As in madame Clicquot's day, bottles age in the House's vast, vaulted cellars in Reims, portions of which were constructed some 2,000 years ago by the Romans. The remarkable Madame Clicquot (1777-1866) is considered one of the first business-women of the modern era. Widowed in 1805 at the age of 27, Madame Veuve Clicquot (born Ponsardin) defied every convention of the day to take the helm of her late husband's small Champagne House. She personally supervised cellar activities and introduced innovative production techniques still used today. Champagne Veuve Clicquot is known internationally for its classically styled and full-bodied Champagne. Read less

In five years, this rating may look conservative, as this wine seems to have the building blocks upon which to age well. Right now, itrsquo;s tight and citrusy, with some riper pear notes and a creamy midpalate. Expect this to develop richer toast and nut nuances, and for the grapefruity finish to soften and become more harmonious.

Selected from the eight grand cru villages in which Madame owned vineyards, this lean, youthful wine is delicious now but could use additional bottle age to broaden out. Toasty and citrusy, therersquo;s a lot of fruit here, yet it retains a great sense of elegance.

Floral, citrus, berry and whole-grain bread notes permeate this intense, well-toned Champagne. Itrsquo;s pleasantly grainy in texture on the long, satisfying finish. Drink now through 2008.

Luscious and deliciously flavorful, this has very ripe, round fruits and plenty of spicy power. Itrsquo;s tasty and impactful, extremely flavorful and forward, displaying loads of sweet vanilla and semi-tropical fruits, all wrapped around a long, full, lush finish.

A rsquo;95 with attitude. Firm, focused and full of biscuit, citrus and hazelnut flavors backed by vivid acidity, though therersquo;s enough creaminess to keep everything in line. Good, nutty finish. Drink now though 2008.

Tightly-packed with notes of citrus oil, orange rind, white peach, honeysuckle, and brioche, the medium to full-bodied 1996 La Grande Dame Brut should age well for 15ndash;20 years. Crisp, fresh, and backward, it is another brilliant example from the exquisite 1996 vintage.

Überaus reichhaltiges Bouquet, Düfte von Apfeltaschen und gezuckerten Windbeuteln in einem schäumenden Ozean dominieren.
