Verwaltung Der Staatsweinguter Eltville Auslese Rheingau Rauenthaler Baiken Riesling 1976

Member Review by LiamZurich:

I recently opened a bottle of this wine in October 2012. The wine was 36 years old so my expectations were not so high. It was quite a surprise and proof to me that good German wine can last a long long time - as long as the best French. I let the wine breath for aprox 30 min before serving it. Then it had wonderful flavors of figs and apricots with a lingering taste of Acacia honey and gooseberry. We put the bottle away for the night after resealing it and proceeded to finish it the following night. Now the wine had developed more and taken on a distinctly rhuebarb and light honey flavor with a lingering taste of cold but smooth tea. All in all a delightful experience bearing in mind i had spend $12 for the bottle.

Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.
