Food Pairings for Vérité Red Bordeaux Blend Sonoma County le Désir
Pauillac style. Still has nice red berry. Earthy nose. Nice age on it, providing still exuberant fruit tones with good tannin integration. Nice herbal tones and spice. - Tasted at Marché Bacchus 9/16/10
Clearly, Mr. Parker and I have difference of opinion - as usual. This is a superb wine, eventually. The reality is that no matter how good a wine becomes, waiting for it to open up after being decanted for the better part of a day detracts from the wine. It is points against whatever "score" it may later merit. The wine is lovely. A rich dark red that is so inviting. The nose is as multi-layered as they come: Myrrh, berry, cherry, sandalwood. The mouthfeel is surprisingly light even though is does have mid-range acid. Another detractor from the total experience is the presence of just enough Brett to pass the interesting funk and enter into the disconcerting. Even more disconcerting when I hear that the wine is aged all in new French oak. Where does the brett come from?
I was trying to enter 4.5 glasses but for some reason couldn't get the site to cooperate. Although this could be a 5 glass rating some day. Right now I think 4.5 is more accurate. In case my full review did not make it when I submitted a few moments ago, I found this to be a very good wine with wonderful complex nose. The relationship to the terroir is unmistakable in my view and is the closest thing to a French style Bordeaux that I have had from California. I do think that this wine will benefit from additional cellaring time. The alcohol was a little forward for me and I think this will mellow out in time. This is a very enjoyable wine now, but I think a few more years and it will be better. There are so many things going on with the flavors that it is a joy to taste it over a prolonged period of time. I did not have any food while I drank it as I wanted to just have the wine. There is little question that this wine would go well with a filet or a prime rib and even a veal dish. You just have to smile drinking this wine. It is what I think wine is about. I recommend.

The Right Bank or Pomerol-styled 2007 La Muse is a blend of 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Malbec. Sensational aromas of espresso roast, black cherries, black currants, licorice, toast, and spice box emerge from this inky/purple-colored 2007. In the mouth, hints of chocolate, creme de cassis, kirsch, charcoal, and a touch of new oak are found in this full-bodied, opulent, yet structured wine. While it is the most showy and precocious of the three 2007s, it needs 3-5 years of cellaring, and should evolve for three decades or more.
Bright ruby-red. Roasted red berries, tobacco, game, coffee and animal fur on the nose. Lush, layered and sweet, with sexy flavors of roasted berries and game. Finishes uncompromisingly dry, with building, ripe tannins.
Medium ruby-red. Superripe aromas of red berries, coffee, tar and tobacco, with an exotic hint of blackberry liqueur. Rich, dense, large-scaled and chewy but quite dry, with very ripe berry, chocolate and licorice flavors. Lush, seamless and sophisticated. Finishes very long and ripe, with smooth, melting tannins.
This 93% Merlot /7% Cabernet Franc blend (92% from the Alexander Mountain Estate, 6% from Bennett Valley and 2% from Knightandrsquo;s Valley) is a andldquo;kissing cousinandrdquo; of the 2001, only softer and more flamboyant. Classically Californian in its exuberant, flamboyant, super-rich, unctuously textured style, the tannins are softer than in the 2001, but the wine unquestionably has the potential to last for another quarter of a century. It exhibits an opaque plum/purple color along with abundant notes of cassis, licorice, graphite, coffee cake and spice box. More approachable than the 2001, the 2002 will offer phenomenal drinking over the next 25 years.
The 2001 La Muse (85% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Malbec; 500 cases) possesses a dense purple color as well as a big, sweet bouquet of chocolate-infused blackberries and cherries intermixed with hints of smoke, earth, and truffles. Full-bodied, with great intensity, tremendous purity, sweet, well-integrated tannin, and a long, blockbuster finish that lasts for 40+ seconds, it offers both power and finesse, a rarity in the super-charged world of big California reds. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2020+. This is an out and out brilliant wine!
A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, Le Desir represents the grace and opulence of the best St. Emillion-style wines. A deep claret color is followed by a spicy floral fragrance, with vanilla and oak notes in the background, characteristic of Cabernet Franc. The balance between the power of the fruit and the subtle complexity of the flavors is captured when bright red cherry notes veer towards darker plum and fig tones, with spice and cinnamon on a very long finish.
The 2002 vintage marks Pierre Seillan's third vintage of Le Désir and represents his continued dedication to craft wines without compromise. A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, Le Désir represents the grace and opulence of the best St. Emilion-style wines. Le Désir represents Pierre Seillan's passion for the unpretentious Cabernet Franc grape. Although most frequently used to enhance Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon blends, Cabernet Franc, when crafted with an artisan approach, possesses the character to play the principle role in a fine wine blend. The 2002 Le Désir is a blend of multiple micro-crus that strive to showcase the character of our Alexander Valley Cabernet Franc. The Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon for Le Désirs are also sourced primarily from micro-crus in Alexander Valley as well as from Sonoma County's newest appellation - Bennett Valley.
