French for "joy", La Joie emphasizes Cabernet Sauvignon and represents a Pauillac-style wine. The wine is deep purple in color, spicy and intense in the nose, with density and structure from its Cabernet Sauvignon dominance.
A saturated dense purple color emerges from the 2002 La Joie. - ($150; 68% cabernet sauvignon, 20% merlot and 12% cabernet franc) Bright ruby-red. Blackberry, licorice and mocha on the nose. Densely packed and juicy, with sharply delineated dark berry and floral flavors. Large-scaled but light on its feet owing to its lovely lift. Serious, gripping wine with a long, bright finish.

- Clearly, Mr. Parker and I have difference of opinion - as usual. This is a superb wine, eventually. The reality is that no matter how good a wine becomes, waiting for it to open up after being decanted for the better part of a day detracts from the wine. It is points against whatever "score" it may later merit. The wine is lovely. A rich dark red that is so inviting. The nose is as multi-layered as they come: Myrrh, berry, cherry, sandalwood.
