Verget Macon-Villages 2006
A firecracker of a Chardonnay, and a no-brainer for pure pleasure. Ruby-red grapefruit juice mixed with crushed oyster shells shows on the nose, with a sweet mouth of green apples and Bosc pears. Great freshness and vibrancy, with plenty of body to pair perfectly with a lazy afternoon's antipasto plate. Guffens selected free-run, but declassified, Viré-Clessé juice for this refreshing cuvée.

This is a clear, straw-color wine, with simple but correct white Burgundy Chardonnay scents of apples and rising bread dough. Fresh and clean flavors (kept that way by a sturdy metal screw cap) blend tart, juicy apples, a distant whiff of spice and a shot of lemon juice in a simple, medium-bodied wine, dry if not bone-dry.
