Veranda Pinot Noir Oda 2009

External Review:

Bright red. Red berries, rose, minerals and underbrush on the nose. Light-bodied raspberry and bitter cherry flavors are nicely concentrated and sappy, with bracing minerality adding spine. The finish is gently sweet and refreshingly brisk, and repeats the mineral and floral notes. A graceful, low-fat style of pinot that nods more toward the Old World than New in texture, weight and flavors. Burgundy winemaker Pascal Marchand is deeply involved in this project.

The 2007 Pinot Noir reveals excellent cherry and raspberry perfume. On the palate it is a bit firm but with another year or two it is likely to round out and merit an outstanding rating. It is a fine value in Pinot Noir.

Medium red. Intensely floral aromas of red berries, rose and baking spices, with a subtle mineral undertone. Brisk, finely etched red fruit and candied floral flavors show good depth, with dusty minerals offering structural support. Finishes with gentle sweetness and very good clarity. This wine is more Old World in character than New.
