Sweet and soft on the nose with early accents of mocha, sweet tobacco leaf, allspice and brown sugar joined by dried bay leaf and black currants. On entry this shows excellent integration and while there is plenty of acidity here, it is held nicely in check by the rich yet not weighty fruit. The oak is well measured as well, yielding a rather seamless wine with attractive herb, toast and blackcurrant flavors; elegant and bright with refreshing acidity on the moderately long finish which ends with cinnamon dusted red berry fruits. This probably won't wow many, but it drinks quite well in a rather classic modern Napa Valley style. Snappy, clean and crisp. 89pts

Dark red color, berry aroma with a bit of leather. Very smooth, strong tannins, high alcohol. Good but unremarkable Cabernet flavor. Bought at Giant in Dec 2013. Enjoyed with Salena's meatloaf while watching Home Alone in front of a nice fire. Bought at Giant in Dec 2013.

Tried this for the first time on 3/22/2013. Delicious. Sandy, who prefers white, liked it better than white wines.

Rich, round, and full-bodied; layered with blackberry, cherry, dried plums, and a hint of cocoa; generous weight on the palate and smooth, mouth-filling tannins; the finish lingers with flavors of rich cassis and black cherry.

Deep garnet color. A rich bouquet of dark cherry, cocoa, clove, plum, tobacco and toasted oak, with delicate notes of coffee and truffle. Layered and complex. Rich and full on the palate with a supple mouthfeel and opulent layers of plum, cherry, anise, and mocha. Smooth and concentrated, the wine exhibits richly woven texture with dark, dense fruit on the long finish.

Deep crimson. Lively cinnamon aromas, with black cherry, cocoa, espresso coffee bean, nutmeg. Rich flavors and an exquisite mouth-feel, velvety tannins, ripe fruit balanced with notes of chocolate and French vanilla. A lengthy, elegant finish.

Aromas of rich chocolate, coffee, and cassis with notes of mixed dark fruit and raspberry. Extraordinarily rich and mouth-filling, with flavors of cassis, coffee and toasted oak that grace a well-structured body, full of texture with ripe, supple tannins

The 2010 Magnificat is composed of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot. It possesses a deep purple color along with sweet creme de cassis, charcoal and background oak characteristics. There is no trace of herbaceousness in this full-bodied, opulent, nicely textured, chewy, long 2010. It is an impressive effort from Franciscan.

Surprisingly tannic and closed for an '01 Napa, but this may be a stylistic decision. It's a very fine wine, well balanced and rich in oak and blackberry-cherry fruit. Totally dry, but those tannins really lock up the flavors. Best after 2010. - S.H. ** SOLD OUT **

Winemaker's Notes:

Dark crushed cherries, cassis and graphite notes are supported by a full-bodied frame of fine tannins and fresh acidity, as the compact finish unwinds with hints of cured olive, grilled herb and spice. Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Carmenère and Merlot.Wine Spectator
