Great buy for $14 from Costco. Flavor of ripe red fruit and chocolate. Wonderful nose. Yummy! Taste like a $30 bottle of wine.

A deep purple, garnet interesting blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot and Carmenère. Smoke, oak, dark berry fruit, some pepper, spice and some earthiness with nice lush mouth-filling tannins. Well balanced, but let it breath for a half hour in glass. Ready now, but this one will cellar nicely. Under 20 bucks from SPECS.

I've had corked wines, wines with zero nose, wines with zero taste, but never a wine that smelled like dirty socks in a high school gym locker. I'd be careful on this one.

What's New in Booze - 9.1 out of 10 The Veramonte Primus is a blend of Carmenere, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot. The best grapes from the top vineyard parcels are carefully sorted, destemmed, and fermented separately before blending and aging for 2 years in French Oak barrels, about 50% of which are new each year. This dark ruby red wine has aromas of chocolate, cherry and vanilla followed by a palate that seems to burst in your mouth with flavors of chocolate covered cherries summed up by a dusty tannic finish.

This red is based on Carmenère, a rare old Bordeaux grape that was widely planted there in the 1700s and is currently undergoing a revival in Chile. Rich yet elegant, this full-bodied wine from Franciscan Estates' excellent new Chilean property is a top-notch find, and enough to convert anyone who hasn't yet discovered the glories of Chilean wine.

The 2007 Primus is a glass-coating opaque purple with aromas of tar, licorice, pepper, blackcurrant, and blueberry. Youthful, structured, and balanced, it will evolve for 5andndash;7 years and offer prime drinking from 2015 to 2025.

Unusually ripe for a Casablanca red, this blend of merlot, cabernet sauvignon and carmenere has the texture of melted chocolate and ripe flavors of fig and blueberry. A powerful acidity keeps a refreshing tension.

Focused, with a tangy grilled herb streak running through the solid core of crushed red plum, cherry and red currant fruit. Mineral and briar hints fill in on the finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot and Carmenandegrave;re. Drink now. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.

This is Veramonte's top red. But frankly, it's green, herbal and difficult to enjoy. the nose offers plenty of green olive, while the heart of the wine is herbal and only gift-wrapped with coatings of blackberry and currant.

Vivid ruby. Pungent aromas of redcurrant, cherry, mint and cedar. Juicy and high-pitched, with brisk acidity adding cut to the zesty red fruit flavors. Youthfully closed today but conveys an impression of finesse and balance. Finishes with lingering cherry and mint notes.
