Editorial Reviews for Veramonte Primus Carmenere Proprietary Blend
Very ripe and a bit Porty on the nose with prune elements, hung game, barnyard, sea salt and terry notes accenting the base of roasted red and black fruits. In the mouth this is rich yet smooth, with the power of the vintage in evidence. And yet the wine is very well balanced, delivering jammy red berry fruits without tremendous weight. The finish does show off a certain candied note before fading into dried herb and spice notes. Very successful for the vintage even though this strikes me as over-ripe. 91pts

Add your reviewThe 1998 is rated to be amongst the best vintages, and this bottle was a complete contrast to the 2004. It was still rife with cherry and figs with gamey and mushroomy overtones. It accompanied the entrees (guinea hen, lamb, fois gras, seared scallops) equally well. Thankfully, we saved just enough for the cheese course. This wine should keep well for several years.

Reserved aromatically, but the wonderful balance is evident...mineral, wet earth, delicate plum, mocha, coffee and blackberry character and subtle, ripe tannins. This has always been one of the harder-edged wines of the vintage, but it is showing some signs of softening. The color remains dark, with aromas of grilled herb, tobacco and beef leading the way for currant, chestnut and garrigue notes that are carr... Wine Spectator.
