What's New in Booze - 9.1 out of 10
The Veramonte Primus is a blend of Carmenere, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot. The best grapes from the top vineyard parcels are carefully sorted, destemmed, and fermented separately before blending and aging for 2 years in French Oak barrels, about 50% of which are new each year. This dark ruby red wine has aromas of chocolate, cherry and vanilla followed by a palate that seems to burst in your mouth with flavors of chocolate covered cherries summed up by a dusty tannic finish.

An excellent wine, though harder to find now and the price has gone up. It is unique but very drinkable.

"One of the first cool-climate reds from Chile, the newest version of Primus is packed with ripe red cherry flavors and notes of bell pepper and bacon. The flavors of blackberry juice and clove end on a plush, mouthwatering finish. Ready to pour now with a steak, it will also gain in complexity with time...92" -W&S 06/08

I thought this was exceptionally good value. 51% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 17% Carmenere. Heady aromas of plum, blackberry, spice, and plum blossom aromas and flavors. Satiny texture. Beautiful dark color. Integrated tannins, and a cedar-spice finish. Nicely made, well-balanced, drinking well now and through2009.

First had this wine in Holland, where it is considerably more expensive, and seems to have become quite popular, and had indeed driven the price up. the oldest I can find now is 2005.
The 2000 was quite good, and now sadly very hard to find.
