This wine definitely needs to get some air. Initial aroma I would describe as stinky. With air the stinkyness disappears replaced by ripe red fruit, especially cherries. Definitely taste of leather and tobacco. Great tannins, long finish. A bit of spice in there too. YUMMY ... but needs air, remember that. :-)

Fresh, hot, black fruit aromas with nice pepper and spice. Nice, round tannins and a eucalyptus finish. The palate is dark to start, but brightens up a bit in the mouth. A very interesting wine -- would go well with food, grilled meats or vegetables and maybe some black olives.

This red is based on Carmenère, a rare old Bordeaux grape that was widely planted in the 1700s and is currently undergoing a revival in Chile. Rich yet elegant, this full-bodied wine from Franciscan Estates' excellent new Chilean property is a top-notch find, and enough to convert anyone who hasn't yet discovered the glories of Chilean wine.

The wine is dark opaque garnet, with aromas of exotic spice, toast and hints of tobacco and mint. The massive flavor is mouthfilling with lush blackberry and cherry notes with smooth powerful tannins. ...hints of mocha and plum. Sweet flavors of plum and blackberry. Velvety tannins and lingering raspberry, black cherry and mocha impressions in the juicy close. -Wine News 91/100

Very fruity, rich and juicy. Finish is all christmas cake and spice, with a bit of licorice and menthol right at the end. A pretty yummy (as hondajohn says) tasty, rich opulent wine. You can smell and taste the sun baked fruit. Really nice.
