Ventisquero Cabernet Sauvignon Queulat Gran Reserva 2008
Founded in 1998 by Gonzalo Vial, owner of Chile’s leading fresh food producer, Agrosuper, Viña Ventisquero winery is one of the most modern in Chile yet manages to retain a ‘boutique’ and innovative outlook. Viña Ventisquero is the first vineyard in Latin America to make use of a state-of-the-art integrated Management System which has led to its acquisition of three certifications (ISO9001, ISO14001 and HACCP) relating to human health and the highest quality and strictest environmental policy. It is all of these things that has enabled Vina Ventisquero to combine traditional methods of viticulture with the most up-to-date means of vinification. An easy drinking, rich and juicy Cabernet of intense ruby colour, with bright cherry hues. The nose is bursting with aromas of mature plums, menthol and a hint of spice. This wine boasts tremendous body, a fresh, open palate and soft ripe tannins, producing a silky texture with chocolate overtones.
This wine is hot, both on the nose and on the palate. The level of acidity is initially very strong, and it's a bit too hot on the finish as well.
Fun and funky aromas with a bit of horse in there as well amidst the fruit. Palate is very bright and candied, full of acidity but still in balance. It attacks a bit on the sugared side for my tastes, but it's still tasty, and finishes with more of the bitter cocoa notes that I prefer.
Musky and resinous on the nose exuding some intense fruit with bitter chocolate undertones. The front palette is smooth and full while the back palette is highly acidic, creating a very lengthy finish begging for a grilled steak.
