Pop quiz: what's the hippest thing going in the wine world right now? If you said crisp, dry European rosé, you win. A fad that began as a fun comeuppance for elitist (which is to say misinformed and hopelessly naive) no-pink-wine prigs, has turned for many into a full-blown obsession. And for good reason - when done as well as this Vega Sindoa is, almost nobody can resist its charms. And euphamisms like "value-priced" barely apply. This wine is downright CHEAP!
Bodegas Nekeas, the owner, calls this wine rosé, not rosado. It has light strawberry and cherry aromas and flavors, sweetness, a firm body, and some pepper, anise and licorice on the finish. The color is just right. A 50/50 blend of Garnacha and Cabernet.
A dry Rosé accentuated with delicate strawberry flavors and kiwi-like acidity that finishes refreshingly pure and clean on the palate.
Such a pretty pink is this Garnacha/Cabernet mix; and it tastes and smells great too. Fruity raspberry aromas blend into the flowery bouquet, while the palate is streamlined by watermelon notes that prime the peach flavors that dominate. A mild dose of pepper on the finish is nice.
The 2009 Rosé is made from 100% Garnacha. Medium pink-colored, it reveals a lovely perfume of cherry blossom, rose petal, and rhubarb. Supple and dry on the palate with plenty of fruity flavor, it is meant for drinking over the next 12-18 months.
Even a wine geek can like this tasty, inexpensive pink-colored wine, and it's a great way to get novice enthusiasts into something other than white Zinfandel. From its rose-floral nose with subtle earth and meaty hints, through the full, dry, herb-shaded berry flavors, this wine is packed with appeal. the Garnacha-Cabernet blend provides surprising body, and it's smoother and fuller than most inexpensive rosés. The dry, light finish makes this a perfect spring choice for anything from sipping to light dining.
