Berry Bros & Rudd review: 2005 was a hot year, with a correspondingly early harvest, which was completed<br/>by 4th October. In some years the picking would not even have started then!<br/>Aware of the dangers of excess, Javier Ausas ensured that there was not too<br/>much extraction in the vat and did not age the wine for too long, this avoiding<br/>desiccated fruit and ungainly alcoholic burn at the back of the palate. These<br/>things were achieved with real success. <br/> <br/>As usual the blend in Valbuena is 90% Tinto Fino ( Tempranillo) and 10% from a<br/>balance of Malbec and Merlot. The wine was aged for less than two years, the<br/>significant majority of which took place in new barrels ( half French and half<br/>American). It is perhaps the presence of Malbec, allied to the warm vintage and<br/>the use of American oak that have engendered a wine with a gregarious ( almost<br/>a 'come-hither') personality. <br/> <br/>Black fruit a
