Vega Sicilia Tinto Valbuena 5 Ribera del Duero 1989

Winemaker's Notes:

This is the "official" Vega Sicilia, only made in top years and released anywhere from 10 to 20 years after the vintage. It is this "racking" (transfering the wine from one barrel to another) that gives "Unico" its peculiar Spanish quality. A grape other than Tempranillo could not resist oxidation as well. After roughly 10 years of ageing in wood, the wine was bottled and cellared until its release.

Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.

This generous red is deeply colored and lively, with plum, prune, tobacco and mineral flavors supported by well-integrated tannins. Balanced, and may still improve. Drink now through 2009. 8,750 cases made. -TM Wine Spectator. A Proprietary Blend wine from Castilla Leon in Spain. 1989 Vega Sicilia Unico 750ml
