Vavasour Sauvignon Blanc Awatere Valley 2010
A serious, concentrated and expressive wine, Vavasour Sauvignon Blanc flaunts a powerful bouquet of fresh herbs and tropical fruits layered with ripe stone fruit and bright citrus. The wine is crisp, balanced and elegant with a distinctive mineral note that holds up well to rich, spicy foods.
RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.
Nose: asparagus, lime, hints of gooseberry, smoky/flinty edge?. nettle. Intense, green & citrussy. Palate: Lime, asparagus, gooseberry, lemon, lime peel, nettle? Fresh, crisp, crunch acidity. Crunchy, slight phenolic edge. Slight hint of minerality in finish. Savoury on finish.
The aromatics are strong and expressive, displaying heavy tropical notes of fresh herbs, guava and a slight hint of grassiness. This wine is extremely crisp where you'll find flavors of passion fruit, grapefruit and guava without being overly sweet. These flavors are accompanied by a bright, mouthwatering acidity that begs you to take another sip. This wine sets itself apart from other NZ Sauv Blancs due to it not being overly sweet, aggressive or grassy - ie. Kim Crawford, Nobilo, Starborough.
