Editorial Reviews for Valley of the Moon Pinot Noir
This is very fresh on the nose with a distinctly citrus fruitiness over bright, sweet, fresh red cherry and red currant fruit. There’s a gentle herbal tone as well, but this is really about very light astringent red fruits and that orangey backdrop. Soft and medium-bodied in the mouth, with flavors that mirror the aromas, edged in blood-orange and rich with Frutti di Bosco flavors. There’s a light herbal element as well that adds complexity to this fresh, zesty wine. Love the texture and the freshness of the fruit here. Not a typical Pinot Noir, but maybe this should be! 89pts

The grapes for this wine are sourced from the historic Mulas Ranch in the rolling hills of the Sonoma Carneros region. The proximity to San Pablo Bay assures moderate daytime temperatures, providing a slow and gentle ripening period for these delicate grapes. Various Pinot Noir clones are harvested from different blocks in the vineyard to bring blending options and complexity to the final blend. Once the Carneros blend is assembled, we introduce a small percentage of Russian River Valley Pinot Noir for added layers of aromas and flavors. The 2009 vintage also includes a splash of Sonoma Valley Syrah for added depth and structure. The wines are put to barrel early and aged ten months in French and Eastern European oak.
Closure: Cork
Aged 10 months in French Oak.
Notes: 10 months in French & Eastern European oak barrels
