Orange oil and green anise seed dominate the nose, which has very laid back slightly candied black raspberry fruit. Very tense in the mouth with fine balance and super integration. There’s a slightly tarry edge to the core of bitter black cherry fruit and a decent finish with nice cherry skin tannins, but this is not revealing all it has. The brightness and harmony here lead me to believe that this too will improve with two to three years in the cellar. 88pts

Cerasuolo di Vittoria is an easy-drinking blend of Nero d’Avola and Frappato (aged in oak) that pairs with pasta, veal or even a hearty hamburger with cheese, bacon and the works. This pretty wine shows nice heft and texture with a bright cherry close.

The 2008 Cerasuolo di Vittoria is 70% Nero d'Avola (aged in oak) and 30% Frappato (aged in steel), a marriage that works beautifully. The Frappato adds freshness and verve to the dark fruit of the Nero d'Avola. Menthol, licorice and spices develop on the mid-palate and finish, adding further complexity. This is another marvelous wine from Valle dell’Acate. Anticipated maturity: 2011–2014.

Ruby-red. Rather inexpressive aromas of red cherry, herbs and strong oak. Then sweet and sappy in the mouth, with liqueur-like flavors of caramelly dark cherry and bitter chocolate. Plenty of density here, but not particularly complex, and showing too much oaky torrefaction. Finishes with firm, mounting tannins.
