Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino Valdicava 2004

Winemaker's Notes:

Tasting Notes: Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino is the benchmark Brunello in the world today. Head and shoulders above the rest. Vincenzo Abruzzese winemaker and owner of Valdicava is a genius and has a close relationship with Grapes having done many tastings for our customers. In a recent Article by Atonio Galloni, rates Italian wine in Robert Parkers Wine Advocate, when asked where to put your money in 2004 Brunello first mentioned Valdicava. The last great vintage of Brunello was 2001 and the Valdicava Brunello got 98 pts by the Spectator and the Valdicava Brunello Riserva Madonna scored a perfect 100 points by the Spectator. It is also interesting to note that the regular Brunello 2003 got 95 pts by the Spectator. We have the 2004 Valdicava Brunello on the presell and the 2003 Valdicava Brunello Riserva Madonna on the Pre-sell. These wines are the best of their kind. PRE-SELL

Here in Montalcino the opulence of the Sangiovese grape, more than any other place in Tuscany, has lead to a darker, deeper, and more concentrated wine. At our precise latitude of 43 degrees, the warmth of the nearby Tirrean Sea, the protective barrier of the "Monte Amiata", the coolness of the wooded areas, the breeze and moderate rainfall all coincide to facilitate the growth of these grapes to fragrant, full maturity. VALDICAVA is located in the Montosoli area which is famous in Montalcino for creating wines with great balance of body and aromas. We pay the utmost attention towards maintaining the individual characteristics of our wines in order to exalt the spirit of the place, the 'genius loci' of our estate. Read less

Classic, old world, luxurious. This is really for wine experts. I'm not sure if I am making sense but this puts you in a "classic Italian night". Very aromatic. I would give it 94+. Seek it out.

WS 95pts. - WA 94pts. - Winemaker Notes - Our philosophy is to work more in the vineyards to respect the balance of the place. We like to produce a Brunello that represents the best tradition in structure and aromatics with more elegance, harmony and fruit. Valdicava represents 1.5% of the Brunello vineyards of Montalcino and 1% of the Brunello production. Total production of the estate is approximately 6,000 cases annually including Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino. In the best vintages a single-vineyard Brunello Riserva from the Madonna del Piano vineyard is produced.

Displays complex aromas of blackberry and cherry, with a hint of licorice. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a delicious finish of wonderful yet subtle fruit. Well-integrated and beautiful. Everything is in the right place. Best after 2011. 5,000 c... Wine Spectator. A Sangiovese Grosso wine from Tuscany in Italy. 2004 Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino 750ml
