Valdesil Sobre Lias Godello Valdeorras 2013

Winemaker's Notes:

17pts - JancisRobinson.com "Six months on lees (in tank). Yellow peach, nectarine, flint and salt. Great intensity and punch - really expresses Godello well, with a delicious hazelnut character." - 17pts, JancisRobinson.com This is 100% Godello, sourced from 30-year-old+ vines situated 500 metres above sea level on primarily slate slopes. Each of Valdesil's Godello vines are grown from cuttings of the worlds oldest Godello vineyard, Pedrouzos, originally planted in 1885. This wine delivers exceptional concentration and the lees ageing means that this is a white wine that can be enjoyed now or kept aside for a good deal longer yet. A great match for meatier fish or light chicken dishes.

The dream of a visionary winegrower has come to fruition, thanks to the commitment and enthusiasm of the large team at Valdesil whose common denominator is entrepreneurial spirit. This group extends beyond the cellar door and includes growers, importers and distributors, as well as hoteliers and restaurateurs looking for wines with personality, and consumers who enjoy discovering something new. Today, the Godellos of Valdeorras have become a reference point for top-of-the-range Galician whites. This variety is found in this small, inland denominacion de orígen, west of Ourense, where ideal conditions exist for making white wines of great style, with the ability to age gracefully. The slate soil and perfect combination of altitude and latitude, together with the special climate of the Sil valley, make this district the ideal location for Godello to express its full potential. The winery was established at Córgomo in 1990, according to best family winemaking traditions, in order to exploit the potential of the region’s grape varieties. Since the beginning we have sought to produce wines with personality, reflecting the combined influences of the particular variety, soil types and climate of Valdeorras. Year after year we have made technical advances, looking to the future whilst acknowledging the experience amassed by our forebears. We have built up a store of experience in both viticulture and vinification, following sustainable methods wherever possible. This philosophy has allowed us to maintain a highly personal style of winemaking thanks to our special interpretation of the grape variety and the priviledged surroundings in which we find ourselves. The secret of Valdesil lies not just in our winemaking disciplines but also in the professionalsm with which we run the business. Read less
