Valdepenas Anciano Reserva Bodegas Navalon 2003

Member Review by atonalprime:

Very impressive for the price. decanted over 3 hours. Black with a ruby rim, nice cherry nose, and bright cherry on the palette with a finish of cocoa. Great food wine, paired excellently with tomato, zucchini and beef over penne.

I was very impressed with this wine. The overwhelming theme here is cherry. Good cherry aroma, that carries over onto the tongue. Nice dryness that does not take over the taste at all. Balanced out by a gentle acidity on the back end. My only complaint is there's not a lot of body here. But pair it with some spicy, peppery food and it really comes to life. Highly recommended, especially for those on a tight budget.

A deep, dark red with balsamic, licorice, and earthy fruit compote aromas. The fruit really comes out on the palate and mixes with balanced tannins for a full flavor and long finish.
