Valandraud(1998)

Virginie de Valandraud is more than just the second wine of Valandraud it has gain international recognition as an individual wine with its own designated vineyard – as Les Forts de Latour or La Chapelle d’Ausone. The wine name comes from Jean-Luc and Murielle’s daughter “Virginie”. It is vinified using the same techniques as Valandraud.

Bright deep ruby. Deep aromas of raspberry, violet, menthol and pungent, nutty oak. Large-scaled, dense and quite complex, with intriguing floral and animal nuances. More dominated by the cab franc, in contrast to the merlot-heavy '99. The very long finish features serious tannins and toothcoating fruit. An especially ageworthy style of Valandraud, but not quite as silky and harmonious as the '99.
