Clos Mogador 2012
" The estate of Clos Mogador is a must for any serious Spanish wine aficionado. Located in Gratallops, in the heart of the Priorat hills, René Barbier, one of the founders of the Priorat revolution, creates his intensely concentrated wine from a blend of 40% Garnacha (from 80 year old vines), 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Syrah and 5% Pinot Noir, Mourvedre and Merlot. This distinctive blend balances the power and massive structure typical of Priorat with an elegance and finesse that belies its aging potential. While the Clos Mogador will continue to improve for 10 years or more, it is delicious now. Vintage after vintage, this wine has consistently received high scores from the wine trade." -Distributor's Notes
Without a doubt the most memorable wine I've ever experienced - extremely well balanced and soft, velvety-rich blackberry, with graphite. Lasted in the mouth and nose for days, perfectly imprinted. exquisite!
Delicious! Hints of....
93 points from Robert Parker: `Clos Manyetes is owned by Rene Barbier of Clos Mogador. The 2004 Manyetes offers an expressive but brooding aromatic profile with mineral, smoke, blueberry, and black currant liqueur. Larger in scale than the 2003, with more mouth-filling fruit, it is beautifully balanced and nearly seamless. There is tannin to lose but it can barely be noticed. Give this top effort 2-3 years to evolve and drink it through 2017.` 91 points Stephen Tanzers' International Wine Cellar: `Ruby-red. Powerful dark berry and plum aromas are complicated by dried rose, licorice, espresso and cured meat. Fat and oily, with deeply concentrated blackberry and bitter cherry pit flavors, solid tannins and bright mineral lift. Youthfully taut but there's very impressive material and balance here.
Deep purple color, still very young. Taste of red fruits, violets, some caramel possibly. Still very closed but very promising, should be drunk about 2013 for full pleasure, but will be great another 5 years at least.

The 2011 Clos Mogador feels ripe serious and young. Rene Barbier likes to pick ripe grapes but without any raisins making it into the vats. The wine is a blend of the different grapes in his Clos Mogador vineyard (it

The 2009 Clos Mogador has a more opulent luscious bouquet than the 2008 with lifted high-toned floral fruit (iodine star anise and sloe) and a smudge of warm alcohol. The palate is full-bodied with succulent gamey dark fruits and an underlying earthiness that should develop with bottle age. It exudes fine tension and poise and is very expressive on the structured finish which will mellow nicely. Clos Mogador needs no introduction. Rene Barbier was a pupil of Jean-Claude Berrouet and is one of the "

The red wines begin with the flagship 2008 Clos Mogador. It is made up of 40% Garnacha, 20% Carinena, with the balance Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Dense purple in color, it sports an expansive bouquet of liquid minerality, wood smoke, game, Asian spices, truffle, and blackberry. Opulent on the palate with layered fruit and precision balance, this loaded Priorat provides a drinking window extending from 2013 to 2023. Opaque purple. Explosive aromas of red and dark berry preserves, cola, incense and potpourri, with smoke and mineral overtones. Deeply pitched black raspberry and cherry flavors show striking clarity and power, with a zesty mineral quality adding lift and cut. Manages to be both powerful and lithe, and finishes with outstanding thrust and mineral-driven persistence. Ive found recent vintages of this wine to be more delineated and agile than those of the early 2000s. Firm and fresh, this focused red delivers ripe, pure cherry and red plum ...
