V. Sattui Winery Pinot Noir Carneros Henry Ranch 2010

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Cola and earth pop on the nose followed by hints of fresh herbs and smoky hickory nuts. This is tight on the nose with a vague sweetness and a low note of blueberry. Nicely balanced in the mouth with a blend of freshness and body that should find many fans. The flavors recall herbs and old wood on the front end followed by blueberry fruit and some not inconsequential tannins that somehow peter out on the modest finish. This is understated, subdued even, but it does show hints of cherry fruit and a rather sophisticated texture. 89pts

Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

A little sweet on the nose, with deep cherry pie-filling notes framed by rosemary, vanilla, and very gentle wood spice. This is bright and firm on entry with very fine-grained tannins that add tension to the palate. This is a bit monotone -- all about the dark cherry fruit with slight shadings of wood spice and those tannins helping to back up the fruit. The finish is a bit clipped by the tannins here, which are fairly drying. A solid Pinot but one that comes off as slightly clumsy, if rich and full. 88pts

We've got a good one here. Cherries and tar on the nose with a bright medium-spiced body. There's tea, chocolate, eucalyptus, and pepper. The finish is a bit medicinal, but hey.

All around a good Pinot. Fruity with a long smooth finish.
