The Würzgarten vineyard is named after a large herb garden planted next to the vineyard, which is thought to impart an herby quality to the wines. Botrytis renders this red slate laden, late-harvest Riesling concentrated and complex with notes of star fruit, ripe peach, and spice.

The Würzgarten vineyard is named after a large herb garden planted next to the vineyard, which is thought to impart an herby quality to the wines. Botrytis renders this red slate laden, late-harvest Riesling concentrated and complex with notes of star fruit, ripe peach, and spice.

Winemaker's Notes:

"Pale golden yellow. Rich bouquet of mango, pineapple and nut oil, along with a hit of honeyed botrytis. Unctuous apricot flavor leavened by elegant minerality. Still closed and somewhat austere on the finish...91" IWC 01/12 "Prominent brown spices and an overlay of honey point toward the ennoblement of fruit, yet bright acids keep this more than merely lively (without engendering the least sense of awkward bifurcation), and it finishes with not only an admirable sense of levity but also of sheer refreshment, combined with not especially prominent sweetness. The whole effect here seems to rest on a palpable and taste-able bed of stone as well as to transparently reveal a delightful mineral shimmer. This lusciously ripe and for its vintage surprisingly lush as well as delicate Auslese ought to be worth following for at least a quarter-century. At 8.5 grams, incidentally, the total acidity here is not at all high for the vintage, although Eymael seeks to reassure me that the wine was not de-acidified...92" WA #199 02/12
