Unti Vineyards Sangiovese Dry Creek Valley 2005
The Unti family may be the best Sangiovese growers in America. This is hyper-ripe, low acidity Sangiovese made from grapes grown on terraced, hillside vineyards. It's fleshy, supple and near Pinot-like in texture. Dense red fruits, hints of sweet herbs and dried cherry flavors are all at the heart of this wine.
Mayo Family Winery is one of the "must stop by here" wineries for when we have friends or family come through town for wine tasting. This sangio stood out to me, even alongside some of the higher end cabs on the top tier flight. Darned good sangio...might have to drive down the road, now that I'm thinking about it...
