Unti Dry Creek Barbera 2009

Member Review by Derek67:

Dark, inky and bone dry. Red fruits and earth are secondary. About as close to Italy as we get in Cali.

The winery, established in 1997, produces small lots of estate grown Zinfandel, Syrah, Grenache, Barbera, Sangiovese, Petite Sirah and a Dry Rose. About as good of a red wine as you will find. Light and bright tannins with incredible bright red fruit. Yet, it is very dry. No one does Barbera better in CA.

The Unti estate was born in 1992 when George Unti bought vineyard land in Dry Creek. His son, Mick, now runs the winery. This is a plush, dark fruited Barbera that, in spite of its weight, has lovely balance. Meaty and showing just a touch of cedar from 11 months in mostly neutral oak.
