Unorthodox From Evidence Wines Lodi Red Blend Red 2009

Member Review by Chris Woodrum:

UnOrthodox’ is an extracted, fatty, highly structured wine, with a fruit front-palate, a smoky, lingering tobacco leaf mid-influence, and an un-shy Licorice finish. Starting with fruit sourced from certified ‘Old Vine’ vineyards in historic Lodi, CA, we set out on a quest to create a ‘big mouth full of wine’ that would pair well with a rich, juicy meal, or stand up on its own legs. Crazy structure; this is a wine to keep for awhile, or drink young and drool over now … Cheers! Review from www.Brainwines.com N/ Elegantly restrained and clean for a Zinfandel based blend. Barrel room, sage, green apples! Red berries and cranberry jam slightly dusted with confection, forest floor, cigar box and touches of vinyl and granite. A masterpiece, only negative is she is just a tad hot. T/ Medium mouthfeel. Clean raspberry and cranberry puree. Crackling acid bite for the varietals. Clean, dark soil flavors. Long, raspberry jam and acid finish. Fantastic! A+ These guys seem to make wine exactly for my palette, like I fantasize that Malk, Skylite, and Pine Ridge do as well. Barrel-aged 18 Months 50% New American Oak 50% New French Oak 600 Cases Bottled April 20, 2011 70% Zinfandel 10% Sangiovese 5% Sauzao 5% Tempranillo 5% Syrah 5% Tannat Alcohol 14.9%

As a concept, Evidence Wines is a small company with a broad outlook on producing small lot, boutique-style wines that bridge the gap between mass-produced premium wines and the smaller, cult-style, ultra-premium wines.  Our goal is to produce wines that approach the table with as much character as many of the truly great names in the industry, but at significantly less expense, thus creating an “affordable boutique” wine! “Small lots” means attention to detail.  Besides sourcing the finest ingredients, we pay particular attention to the ever-evolving practices used in the wine cellar. By using a combination of classic and contemporary wine-making practices, streamlining our costs, and making all bottling materials for Evidence Wines as cost-effective and eco-friendly as possible, we are delivering fine quality without having to break our customers banks.  You could say patience, knowledge and love are our secret ingredients. And, we want to give back a little something … while we are working hard to deliver a memorable tasting experience, we also want to make a difference with our “Tree A Bottle” program.  Buy a bottle – plant a tree!  (You can find out more here.)
